Fandom: Avatar: The Last Airbender
Pairing: Aang/Katara
Theme set: Epsilon (for 1sentence)
Rating: G to PG-13
01. Motion
They were reflections of each other; their movements equally gracefully as they bobbed and weaved the water, a constant, mirrored motion.
02. Cool
The night was hot, not a breeze in sight and sweat poured off of Aang; he was unwilling to let go of the soft body in his arms, not even to cool off.
03. Young
There were times Katara seemed so young to Aang, despite her mature appearance; he had to remind himself that he’d lived lifetimes while she only had the one.
04. Last
Aang often spoke about the monks and how it had been living in the temple; he would smile as he spoke, but Katara knew, felt it in the very marrow of her bones that he was quietly suffering.
05. Wrong
Supposedly, it was wrong for the Avatar to have a lover; Katara sneered at those who said that as she wrapped her arms around Aang’s shoulders.
06. Gentle
Despite his eagerness, Aang was so gentle, as if he was afraid to break her; they both knew it was more likely to happen the other way around.
07. One
He was the one who was special (unique, the last) but when Aang turned those gray eyes at her and grinned, slowly and steadily, Katara felt like she was the only person in the world (important, matchless).
08. Thousand
“C’mon, Katara, there are thousands of things we can do now that the war is over!” Aang said, stretching his arms wide as if to hug the entire world to his chest; Katara smiled and stood beside him, knowing that where he would go, she would follow.
09. King
King Bumi was at the ceremony, though he promised -with a wide grin and cackle- not to draw attention away from the couple.
10. Learn
For someone who was typically good at everything she attempted, there was nothing more frustrating to Katara than having Aang completely outdo her at waterbending; it doesn’t matter that he’s the Avatar, she fumed to herself as she fell back into stance.
11. Blur
Aang could be a blur when he wanted to be, and Katara sometimes found it hard to keep up.
12. Wait
It happened quite suddenly one day: Katara looked at Aang and saw, not the boy she’d known all along, but a young man; when he noticed her stare, Katara looked away quickly, face suspiciously red.
13. Change
“But I don’t want to train right now!” Aang said, heaving a deep sigh; Katara crossed her arms over her chest and looked away, disappointed wafting off of her like perfume, and Aang knew he was about to change his mind.
14. Command
Aang sighed heavily, wiping sweat from his brow and grinning; Katara was occasionally demanding, but it was hard to refuse her commands.
15. Hold
White noise roared through his ears, eyes and arrows glowing as power coursed through him, writhing and pulsating; Katara hugged him close, pitting her will against it as she fought to sever the hold the Avatar Spirit had over Aang.
16. Need
Aang didn’t think Katara really understood how much he needed her, but that was okay; as long as she was with him, she didn’t really need to know.
17. Vision
As Aang wearily threw his arms down, shaking the pain and stiffness out, he wished once again that it had been Katara he’d seen in the swamp.
18. Attention
Aang really wasn’t a stickler for details; he wanted to move forward without a plan, travel ahead, and see what was beyond the horizon—
“It’s such a good thing I’m here,” Katara said as she frowned down at the map.
19. Soul
Katara knew their souls were bound; she would find him in the next life, just as she had done in this one.
20. Picture
Aang had a picture of her, small and faded and not nearly enough; he brought it to his lips, pursed and wrinkled, and kissed it, promising that, as she had found him in life, he would find her in death.
21. Fool
He played the fool, but Katara knew that he was capable of playing the knight as well.
22. Mad
It wasn’t easy to make Aang mad, not like it was her; in that way, Katara felt they balanced each other out.
23. Child
Aang looked over his reflection in the water; he hated the fact that compared to her, he looked like such a child.
24. Now
“Aang, we need to get out of here, now…Aang? Aang—”
Only dreadful, frightening silence answered.
25. Shadow
There were shadows under her eyes and tiny worry wrinkles on her forehead; Aang took her hand and drew her close, making her forget the trouble they were in.
26. Goodbye
Katara sat in front of the monument, silent and empty -nothing like him, never like him- as she tried to find a way to say goodbye.
27. Hide
“Hey Katara, what have you got there?” Aang asked and Katara shook her head, smiling as she hide her hands behind her back; she wished once again that she had the same open personality he had, and didn’t get so embarrassed about giving her—friend, boyfriend, what?— a gift.
28. Fortune
Aang didn’t care for riches like diamonds and gold (the monks had taught him that material goods were fleeting and meaningless); he knew that his true fortune was in the heart of a certain Water Tribe girl.
29. Safe
Katara felt safest when she was in Aang’s arms; not only for protection, but for the protecting of him.
30. Ghost
In the swamp, everyone else saw ghosts but Aang saw a young girl; Toph, Katara thought, reminding herself that the girl was going to be Aang’s earthbending teacher and that was all.
31. Book
Aang was entranced with Katara’s diary; he’d promised her he would never look in it – and he hadn’t – but he was so very interested in knowing what was written on the pages of that book and whether or not his name was mentioned in a more-than-friends type of way—
Katara hugged the diary to her chest, smiling as she thought of wide gray eyes and a endearing grin.
32. Eye
Katara’s eyes are very pretty, Aang thought as he halfway listened to her waterbending lessons, swinging his legs absently, they’re so bright and expressive, you can tell how she’s feeling just by looking into them—
“Aang, you’re not paying attention,” a familiar voice said and Aang looked up into blue eyes; yeah, you can tell how she’s feeling, he thought, matching Katara’s pointed stare with a sheepish grin as he sat up straighter and concentrated on what she was saying.
33. Never
“Just…just don’t forget me, please, d-don’t ever forget me—”
“Never,” he vowed, feeling his heart break and power roar in his ears.
34. Sing
Katara sang softly as she washed herself off; the low murmur became a loud squawk as icy cold water descended from above and hysterical laughter sounded out and oh, Aang, you’re going to pay.
35. Sudden
As he grabbed her shoulders and pulled her forward, Katara thought absently that the kiss should have been sudden and awkward but it wasn’t (feels like I’ve been waiting forever for this); it felt natural and exhilarating and right.
36. Stop
Katara and Aang splashed in the river together, laughing as they had a water fight - she was winning, but only because he was letting her - and Aang wished once again that time could be stopped and that they could stay in this moment forever.
37. Time
Time never seemed to touch Aang’s spirit, not even when he was old and gray; Katara envied him for that, even as she drew strength from it.
38. Wash
Aang loved washing Katara’s hair, the long silky strands curling around his hands and arms as he worked the soap to lather; he grinned and shook his head at Katara’s playful suggestion that he may be developing a fetish.
39. Torn
Aang’s clothes were torn, bloodied; Katara held the wash cloth tightly, knuckles turning white as she swore silently they would pay for this; Azula and Zuko, she thought, turning hard eyes towards the star-filled sky.
40. History
Aang was fascinated by his history and his past lives but when Katara looked over the documents and bibliographies, she couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed and a little frightened.
41. Power
Aang’s power was incredible and it was possible for him to destroy an entire kingdom if he so chose; despite all that, he cheerfully explained that it was Katara who had power over him.
42. Bother
Katara knew Aang felt like he was a bother to her and sometimes he was; what he didn’t know what that it was a type of bother she liked.
43. God
He may have been like a God to other people but, to her, he was Aang.
44. Wall
Ignoring Aang’s taller stature, Katara shoved him against the wall; she smirked at his eager expression before pressing close against his body and murmuring promises in his ear.
45. Naked
There were times when Aang would look at her, just look, and Katara would feel naked, as if she was stripped of all secrets and falsities; it was both exhilarating and frightening.
46. Drive
Katara sighed deeply as she stared down at the two boys – Sokka and Aang were talking in excited whispers – and wondered once again where the two of them would be if she wasn’t there to push them along.
47. Harm
Aang was afraid of what would happen if something should ever happen to Katara; the thought itself was enough to send shivers down his spine and a rush of power through his bones.
48. Precious
Katara knew that, no matter how precious she was to Aang, no matter how important she was, the world came first; she understood and was okay with that.
49. Hunger
Sometimes he would get this look in his eyes, this horrible, melancholy expression on his face; Katara would draw him close, erasing that heartbroken expression and replacing it with hunger and want and love.
50. Believe
Katara didn’t think it was possible for her to ever stop believing in Aang; even when they were in terrible danger, with darkness creeping in, she knew that everything would be okay as long as they stood together.
